USSR HF transceiver type R-104M
USSR HF Transceiver R-104M.
The R-104M is in the centre with its aerial tuner attached on the right hand side, the low power supply unit/accumulator pack to the left of the set with the external high-power supply unit on the extreme left.
The Morse key mounts on the lid of the low-power supply unit.
The R-104 was developed in the 1950s and used in large quantities in the Warsaw Pack countries used for HF communication by all arms for Battalion to Regiment to Division communication.
Functionally it may be compared very roughly with the AN/GRC9.
Used as a man-pack set it was carried as a two-man load (the set proper and the combined accumulator/low power supply unit, interconnected by a strong cable).
In a vehicle (often the ubiquitous GAZ69 USSR jeep) or as a ground station it had an additional external power supply unit.
- Frequency range 1.5-4.25 MHz in two ranges.
- RF power output manpack 3W CW / 1W AM R/T.
- RF power output vehicle/ground 20W CW / 10W AM R/T.
- Aerial: Rod, longwire or dipole.
- Manpack power: two 2.4V NiCad batteries
- External supply unit powered from 12V battery.
- RF output valve GU50.
- In later versions the power units had a transistorised invertor unit.
