The USSR type R-159 is a VHF FM transceiver. It was used as a vehicular mounted set or as a manpack set for Platoon to Company communications. Adopted by the East German Army, the radio was principally used in the UAT-469 vehicle of NBC troops for communication and also for transmissions of data collected by the KSMG-1 radiac meter. A special adapter plate and separate loudspeaker unit was used when fitted in a vehicle, notably ZIL-131, UAZ-469 and GAZ-66. Versions are noted with external power connector for 12V and 24V DC.
